Part I: Summary Description

The Interior Horticultural Specialist (Poinsettias) is a temporary seasonal role expected to last for 8-10 weeks from mid-November through early January. This position performs the following duties and is expected to have an existing familiarity of working with plants, complete all written and verbal communication as required, and maintain a consistently professional appearance and demeanor, according to HDG standards. All of these activities are performed under the supervision of the Interior Maintenance Supervisor.

Part II: Essential Duties

  • Aide in the organization and preparation of Poinsettias at the HDG warehouse before they are installed at client sites

  • Aide in the installation of Poinsettias at client sites throughout the city and suburbs

  • Maintain Poinsettias at designated client accounts for approximately 4 weeks according to the quality standards set by HDG through proper and timely trimming, pruning, and watering

  • Follow designated poinsettia maintenance schedule, which typically includes visit every Poinsettia client once a week for watering and maintenance

  • Use of handheld computer system for time clock and replacement sheets, as instructed

  • Maintain verbal communication; including answering cell phone calls as soon as possible, immediately advising supervisor and Customer Care Coordinator of any poinsettia issues, etc. person of any changes in schedule, and responding to any customer need or request immediately

  • Maintain a consistently professional and pleasant demeanor with all customers and fellow employees, according to HDG standards

  • Aide in the removal of Poinsettias from client accounts at the end of the seasonPart III: Qualifications

  • Must have a clean driving record

  • Must be able to use personal vehicle to service routes, mileage/parking/tolls reimbursed

  • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changes in the daily schedule

  • Excellent personal skills when interacting with the public, clients, and co-workers

  • Ability to follow instructions, verbal or written

  • Ability to use general computer programs

  • Ability to use computerized hand-held telephone systems with training

Part IV: Education and Experience

  • Minimum high school diploma or the equivalent

  • Must have an interest in horticulture

Part V: Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must have valid Driver’s License and be in possession of it at all times

  • Must have a personal vehicle

  • Personal vehicle must be fully insured
